Ex-Newcastle boss Keegan explains 'I'd love it" Fergie rant

Former Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan has opened up on his "I would love it" rant at Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson over 20 years ago.

Keegan's Newcastle side were Manchester United's closest challengers in the 1995-96 season.

Opening up on the incident, Keegan told BBC Radio 5 live: "I was upset that he thought football wasn't a straight game.

"I will guarantee that it is the straightest game. What he said really had a go at football.

"It was about character and the honesty of football. We get on well and always have. There was nothing personal between me and Sir Alex.

"The league was over. There was only one game left. It was finished.

"They had to go to Boro, managed by an ex-United player, and weren't going to lose there.

"It wasn't about losing the league, it was about what Sir Alex said."
