Former AC Milan chief Massimiliano Mirabelli has explained the signing of Pepe Reina.
Reina, who arrived on a Bosman from Napoli, was among Mirabelli's final signings before he was moved on by new owners Elliott Management.
He told 7Gold, "We took the opportunity to bring Pepe Reina for €0.
"With (Gigio) Donnarumma, it was both possible to sell him and retain him. Reina has extraordinary qualities as a goalkeeper, but also as a man in the locker room. We needed a player to bring this experience, whether he could play a little or a lot.
"The extension of Gianluigi? They made it difficult with Donnarumma. But it was not the only time we inherited such a case. For example, the contract of (Patrick) Cutrone also expired. Managing Donnarumma with this agent is not easy (Mino Raiola). It was right to give him an important salary."
