Ex-Man Utd no2 Queiroz proud of Portugal performance

Portugal boss Carlos Queiroz was proud of his sides World Cup performance following their elimination at the hands of Spain.

The former Manchester United assistant guided his side to the Round of 16 but they came up short against the early tournament favourites and he said that the players were content with how they played despite going down.

"Spain had more possession and it was no surprise they dominated play. It was a fair result when you consider the possession they had and the chances they created," he said.

"We had a few chances of our own but we failed to take them, which was a shame. If we'd put them away, things could have been a lot tighter. We can feel proud of our performance because we went on the attack and the players fought to the end. They're pretty pleased with how they played and what we need to do now is come back even stronger."
