Ex-Man Utd keeper Lindegaard: Why playing for Sir Alex was blessing and curse

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard says they lost their family atmosphere after Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.

Lindegaard is now playing in Sweden with Helsingborgs.

He recalled to Fotbollskanalen: "With Sir Alex it was an incredible family club. Everyone was part of the United family, from the ladies who washed our clothes, to the chairman, the directors and the manager. Everyone was part of the same team.

"But that changed a bit when Sir Alex Ferguson stopped. A new manager, who might only be interested in the first team, while Sir Alex was interested in it all, came. He came up with new ideas, so things changed.

"I usually say that if you have played for United under Sir Alex, it is both a blessing and a curse. You have experienced a perfect level of football - both practical, playful and everything. At the same time, it becomes a problem when you no longer play under Sir Alex."
