Ex-Man Utd keeper Bosnich identifies where De Gea went wrong against Spurs

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has identified where David De Gea needs to improve.

The Spaniard was criticised for his part in Tottenham Hotspur's goal in the 1-1 draw last Friday.

"He has had a season that has been full of mistakes that he hasn't made on a consistent basis in the past, there is no doubt about that," he told Sky Sports.

"In terms of the goal against Tottenham, a lot of people are obviously talking about the delivery that Roy Keane made, but the bottom line is whether you agree with the way he delivered it or not, that is Roy's style.

"It was a mistake and I think that the most important thing, and I'm sure his goalkeeping coach would notice from a technical point of view, is that there is something wrong when he sets for shots. You saw it in that goal there.

"So, as a goalkeeper you set for shots and your feet are outside the width of your shoulders you're going to have real problems because the natural reaction then is to go backwards when a shot is hit quite hard, you've got no room to maneuver your feet and if you're going backwards as a goalkeeper and the ball hits you, invariably it's going to go in the back of the goal.

"So that's something they definitely need to work on and obviously they've got Henderson who's playing so well at Sheffield United as well.

"It has been more than a blip this season."
