Ex-Man Utd coach Carrick in frame for Preston job

Former Manchester United coach Michael Carrick was under consideration at Preston North End.

The Sun says Carrick was said to be on the managerial shortlist to become the next boss at Preston North End.

Frankie McAvoy left the club on Monday after nine months in charge and Carrick was one of the top candidates to land the role

Having stepped into the breach when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked, the former United midfielder temporarily took charge before Ralf Rangnick accepted the job offer.

Carrick hinted he would like to spend some time with his family after leaving his role at United, but could instead be in for a quick return to football.

But it won't be with Preston, after they appointed Ryan Lowe as new manager.
