Ex-Man Utd chief Gill leaving FIFA

Former Manchester United chief David Gill is set to leave FIFA.

The Daily Mail says Gill, English football's most influential powerbroker, is to stand down from the FIFA Council at the end of the season after four years in the role. The United director and UEFA executive committee member believes he can make more of a difference at UEFA.

Gill had only been prepared to serve on the FIFA decision-making committee because Sepp Blatter resigned as president. He would have stood down if the disgraced Blatter had continued in office any longer.

His successor will be chosen in an election next February rather than rotate between the four home unions as it did in the past. The strong favourite will be FA chairman Greg Clarke.
