Ex-Man Utd assistant McClaren gives advice for Rangnick takeover

Former England manager and ex-Man United assistant coach Steve McClaren believes Ralf Rangnick must be clever during his spell at the club.

The German coach is coming in to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the rest of the season, and will then serve as an advisor for a further two years.

Rangnick is expected to lead United at the weekend, with Michael Carrick in charge for the Thursday clash against Arsenal in the Premier League.

"I hope United are clever and they'll allow him to build the club,' McClaren told talkSPORT.

"He's gone in there six months as a manager and he's a club builder.

"He goes on the three Cs of concept, creating a DNA – for the club a recognisable style of play with fast, attacking football and competence – getting in the right staff and right players, that's the key area.

"He's got his disciples in Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann, Jesse Marsch at RB Leipzig. They've all been very successful under him and he needs to deliver that from the present coaches or bring new ones in and bring the right players in.

"United have got cash and I hope they're clever in creating the DNA for the football club and building it beyond."
