Ex-Man City starlet Matondo loving Schalke experience

Former Manchester City youngster Rabbi Matondo is having a lot of fun in Germany.

The 18-year-old winger signed for Schalke in January and has been loving life in the Bundesliga ever since.

It makes him the latest British talent to make his mark outside the Premier League, where opportunities are limited.

Speaking about his experiences since he joined Schalke on a permanent transfer in January, Matondo told the BBC: "In terms of living away, I knew it was going to be difficult but I really wanted to go abroad, experience it, because I feel if I can do it abroad, it can set me up for the future if that's here or somewhere else.

"I just wanted to get that experience and, at a club like Schalke, I couldn't really say no

"It's hard at first when you're away from home but he's enjoying it and you can see on the pitch - he's doing very well at the moment. It's been a good experience so far."

Matondo also admitted that he spoke with former teammate Jadon Sancho about his experiences, with Sancho having joined Borussia Dortmund six months earlier.

He added: "I spoke to him [Sancho] about this move.

"He was saying positive things about his time here."
