Ex-Lyon, PSG striker Luyindula returns to midfield niche with NYRB

Peguy Luyindula is back finding a midfield role for himself with the New York Red Bulls.

The former Lyon, Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain striker was deployed in a central midfield position late in 2013 with much success and despite starring there during preseason, was yet to gain a start in the role in 2014.

On the weekend, Luyindula returned to the centre of the pitch and managed to net an injury-time equalizer as the Red Bulls drew 1-1 with Chivas USA.

Prior to the match, he was burning for a chance to have an influence on the game from midfield and in the end, his wishes came true as he allowed New York to record a point with a headed goal at the death.

"Yes, I was a little bit (surprised) because I played all the preseason at that spot," Luyindula offered ahead of the weekend's fixture.

"Then we played on the turf (against Vancouver Whitecaps) which Thierry [Henry] cannot play on and I was put on the forward spot. It was OK, I knew it before the game, but I was expecting more to play in the midfield spot.

"You have to find your place in the team and in the squad. I think I find my place now and I'm just fighting to start all the games."
