Ex-Liverpool striker Sturridge: The comeback is near

Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is optimistic about his comeback.

The Englishman, who is only 31, has been struggling for fitness.

His contract with Trabzonspor in Turkey was terminated in March when he got a four month betting ban. Now Sturridge is fit and is hoping to find a new club.

"Still active and focused baby," he wrote on Instagram on Sunday.

"The comeback is near."

The player has been training with Kidsgrove Athletic, who are in the eighth-tier of English football.

Kidsgrove chairman Mick Fitzjohn told the Stoke Sentinel: "He's coming down to keep himself fit and he's working hard while he finds a new club.

"He comes down most days and he can let himself in. He lives locally and we don't mind that. It's a nice set up.

"I've been down there painting but we haven't chucked him a brush just yet to help out."
