Ex-Liverpool striker Erik Meijer: Stop fullbacks and Ajax can win

Former Liverpool striker Erik Meijer believes Ajax can upset his old club in tomorrow's Champions League group opener.

Meijer feels if Ajax can silence Liverpool's threat from their fullbacks then they will have a chance in Amsterdam.

He said, “If you saw the kind of power Liverpool showed against Everton last week, then the difference in strength is very big, yes. Liverpool has an international and Champions League-worthy player in every position.

“At Ajax there are young guys who have not yet played at this level. That is a difference with a team that already has the experience of winning the Champions League."

But Meijer also told AD: "Liverpool's weakness may well be the strength of Ajax. By communicating well, they must have things in order on the dangerous flanks. They can use the strong body of Dusan Tadic as a striker to hurt Liverpool in the breakaway. Because Ajax can play good football."
