Ex-Liverpool star Fowler cleans up at Nth Qld Fury awards night

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has cleaned up at North Queensland's Fury first awards night. The 34-year old marquee man picked up the inaugural Fury Player of the Year award along with the Players' Player Award (voted for by teammates) and the Golden Boot award for most goals (with nine) at the evnt held at Jupiter's Townsville Hotel and Casino.

Fury Chairman Don Matheson was delighted that a player such as Fowler would have his name written into the history books at North Queensland.

"Robbie's been fantastic for us," Matheson said.

"We hoped he'd score goals for us and he did - some of them were among the best seen in the Hyundai A-League this season.

"The fact his team-mates have acknowledged him as their choice of Players' Player speaks volumes about the sort of person Robbie is."

In other award news, David Williams was named as the Fury's Young Player of the Year but was unable to accept his award as he is in Brisbane with the Australian national team preparing for Wednesday's Asian Cup clash with Indonesia.
