Ex-Liverpool defender Scales says Rodgers must be handed new terms

Former Liverpool defender John Scales has urged his old club to secure Brendan Rodgers to a new contract.

Scales, who made 94 appearances during his spell at Liverpool in the early 1990s, believes the club need to do all they can to secure Rodgers' future.

He told the Daily Express: "Rodgers has this philosophy about the game which I love to see in terms of the way he's got the players playing and the way the game is played.

"His contract is up in 15 months. I would be tying him down now before the end of the season because right now is the time where things are going well. You have a manager who is very popular in the dressing room and that is clear for people to see.

"You don't want to leave it until the summer because there are obviously clubs coveting him, I mean big teams.

"He is very loyal. He's got a plan, a philosophy, and he gets on with the owners."
