Ex-Liverpool defender Masterson: Sturridge a level above Coutinho

QPR defender Conor Masterson says Daniel Sturridge was the most talented player at Liverpool.

Irish centre-back Masterson was Liverpool Under-18 captain when he was invited by then boss Brendan Rodgers to train with the first-team.

Masterson, who has since joined Queens Park Rangers in 2019 after he was released by Liverpool, saw a number of stars up close and was particularly impressed by Sturridge.

"Daniel Sturridge, man! He was just a joke," Masterson told Goal. "He ripped everyone apart. Coutinho was good, but Sturridge was on another level.

"He was so sharp, he had pace, he could finish, he had skill, he could do everything. He stood out a mile to me."

Coutinho is now with Barcelona, while Sturridge is currently a free agent.
