Former Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan is in talks with Fleetwood Town.
The Sun says Flanagan is available on a free after his contract expired at Rangers last month.
The ex-Liverpool full-back, 27, is keen to return to the North West after two years in Scotland.
However, it's unclear whether he would be prepared to drop down the divisions to play League One football.
Joey Barton - who flopped at the Light Blues in 2016 - may have a better chance if the Cod Army are promoted to the Championship.
Versatile Flanagan made 39 appearances for Rangers but mostly played back-up to James Tavernier and Borna Barisic.
