Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has concerns about Virgil van Dijk's fitness.

Van Dijk and Joe Gomez are yet to feature in preseason, with the pair being carefully managed on their respective returns from injury.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said on Friday that it is unlikely Van Dijk or Gomez will feature in Liverpool's next friendly against Hertha Berlin later this week.

Enrique has taken to Instagram to say that he “does not understand" why Van Dijk and Gomez are yet to play any minutes during preseason.

The Spaniard wrote: “I believe we are perfect but I want to see how Gomez and Van Dijk are as well because I don't understand after such a long period out how they still don't have any minutes so hopefully both of them are good."
