Ex-Liverpool, Atletico Madrid winger Maxi Rodriguez announces retirement

Former Liverpool and Atletico Madrid winger Maxi Rodriguez has announced his retirement.

Now 40 and off contract from Newell's Old Boys, Maxi announced his retirement this morning.

Maxi started his career with Newell's, but joined European football in 2002, where he moved to Espanyol.

Three good seasons there led to a move to Atletico Madrid, who in January 2010 was taken to Liverpool, where he helped win a League Cup title in 2012.

He moved home to Argentine football in the summer of 2012, while in 2017 he moved to Uruguayan Penarol. In 2019, he returned to Newell's.
