Former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is in advanced talks to take the Uruguay job.
Bielsa has been a free agent since his dismissal by Leeds last season.
TyC Sports says the veteran Argentine, 67, is on the verge of succeeding Diego Alonso.
Alonso left his post after less than a year in charge following Uruguay's disappointing group stage exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Bielsa is finalising a contract until the end of the South American qualifiers, with the possibility of extending his deal until the 2026 World Cup.
