Former Lazio winger Pasquale Foggia has revealed how close he came to joining Liverpool.

Having spent the 2007/08 season in Sardinia, on loan at Cagliari from Lazio, he admits he was on Liverpool's radar.

The Neapolitan told Cagliari News 24: "That's history. That year at Cagliari, especially at the beginning but also after, they gave me the opportunity to establish myself as a footballer.

“There was Liverpool, it's true, and in January many other teams who wanted me both in Italy and abroad. Then with Cellino we made the choice to stay until June to try to hit salvation (not be relegated), which was then granted."
