Ex-Everton star McFadden claims Coleman key to Patterson development

James McFadden believes Everton veteran Seamus Coleman will help Nathan Patterson develop at the club.

Patterson arrived in January from Rangers, but was injured for most of the second half of the season.

The 20-year-old will be hoping to kick on and have a good season in 2022-2023.

"He's come down and hasn't played much yet, but he's shown with his performances with Scotland that he's a talented player," said former winger McFadden.

"It won't faze him coming to play for Everton. It's great for Everton and it's great for Scotland."

McFadden of his ex-teammate Coleman: "Seamus is going to be key for him because he came to the Club as a young player.

"He had a lot of developing to do. Great attitude and he had a willingness to learn. He was out every day doing extra, he wanted to improve, he wanted to be part of the side.

"Seamus will no doubt help him because he's captain as well. I can't believe where the time goes but he's turned into a mature player who leads by example. He's always done that and he's vocal as well.

"It's a natural progression that you go on and try help the younger players coming through and Seamus will be brilliant for him because he's been a terrific servant for Everton.

"He [Seamus Coleman] is probably one of the best signings the Club has ever made in terms of value. No doubt he will learn from Seamus and there's no better player to learn from."
