Ex-Everton defender Keown says Alexander-Arnold must be targeted as Liverpool weak link

Former Everton defender Martin Keown can see the Blues targeting Liverpool fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold for today's derby.

The 22-year-old defender was one of the Reds' standout performers in their title-winning campaign last season, hitting the league's second-highest number of assists from full-back.

But Liverpool's back four has come under scrutiny already this season after shipping seven goals in their last outing at Aston Villa.

“Last week [the Villa defeat] was the one smack in the face Liverpool have had in five years since Jurgen Klopp has arrived, really," Keown told talkSPORT.

"They didn't make an adjustment to this high line, but that high line is all-important to the way they play, so they can set their stall out, press from the front with everybody up behind them.

“I don't think he'll change from that against Everton, he just needs to adjust it and game manage it better.

“Richarlison against Alexander-Arnold could be an eye-opener.

“I feel he [Alexander-Arnold]'s having a tough time at the moment because he's trying to get forward and teams are just firing balls into that channel behind him. Their strength has become their weakness, really."
