Former Everton attacker Shani Tarashaj has been handed a deal by FC Zurich.

FCZ president Ancillo Canepa says the former Switzerland international isn't part of the first team squad - for now - due to the lack of action he's seen over the past 12 months.

He told Blick: "We haven't signed Shani for the first team yet.

"We give him the opportunity to reconnect with professional football. He's been training with the U21s since Tuesday. For insurance reasons, we had to sign a player contract.

"Incidentally, Shani takes on a large part of the costs himself. Whether there will be a definitive commitment is completely open at the moment."
