Ex-Crystal Palace owner Jordan slams Morgan over Ronaldo interview: Who told you about the £350M offer?

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has slammed Piers Morgan after his interview with Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo this week.

Morgan called into Jordan's talkSPORT show to defend his approach to the Portuguese.

Morgan opened with: “I did challenge him, which is why I got him to admit he shouldn't have done what he did at Tottenham, and I got him to make other admissions too. I'm not quite sure what you mean by challenging because he was setting the record straight over stuff that had been misleading."

Jordan sarcastically replied: “I can give you an example if you want. I can give you examples of what I mean by challenging, because I'm not giving you a lecture. I was asked for an opinion upon how you conducted the interview."

The pair then bickered over an indifference over what Ronaldo had said before they ramped up tensions another level.

“I would say to that, that if there are senior executives running Manchester United who would wish to deny on the record anything Cristiano Ronaldo has said, let them come forward," Morgan said.

But Jordan blew his lid, saying: “But I don't care what you would say Piers, I want to hear what he was saying. He didn't name anybody. In the same way that you wanted Meghan Markle to name the racists in the Royal Family, why would you ask Ronaldo to name explicitly and specifically who he was referring to?

“If we're going to deal in detail, let's deal in detail. Let's push back on the idea that someone was going to spend £350million on his contract."

Morgan argued: “You're talking complete nonsense on that Saudi deal as well because I know exactly who made that deal, and know that is true. I have spoken to the person who made the offer myself."

When challenged on whether he had seen the offer, Morgan replied “why would they lie?" - to which Jordan again vented his anger, quizzing: “Why would people misrepresent things? You do that regularly!"

Morgan wasn't happy, stating: “I do think you're talking complete nonsense. This interview over 90 minutes has made more headlines than any other sport interview I can ever remember. Ronaldo was reactionary; he wanted to set the record straight, correcting all of the smears and lies about him over the last few months."

But Jordan got the last laugh, savaging Morgan. He went on: “My observation about you his that you were incredibly critical on the style of interviewing that was deployed by Oprah Winfrey in the advertorial that was put forward. You did precisely the same thing. You had no constructive objectivity."
