Former Chelsea striker Demba Ba says he had no sympathy for Liverpool and Steven Gerrard after his famous goal at Anfield.

Chelsea handed Liverpool their first league defeat of 2014 and ended a 16-match unbeaten run when they triumphed 2-0 at Anfield in April 2014. The Reds would eventually collapse and hand the Premier League title to Manchester City.

Speaking to The Athletic, Ba reflected on his goal, saying that: “I only realised how big a deal that was a couple of years later, when people still talked about it.

"They still talk about it! It was traumatic for them. But we didn't enjoy the fact that we killed their dream, we simply enjoyed winning."

However, when asked whether he felt in any way sorry for inflicting such pain on Gerrard and the Liverpool fans, Ba admitted that it is all part of football.

“No, not really. Because that's the game," explained the former Newcastle United frontman.

"You make errors and others take advantage. What Steven Gerrard has done for the world of football is tremendous. But this is life, unfortunately. Not all stories can end in fairytales."
