Ex-Chelsea striker Sutton: Musonda progress hinges on Celtic star

Charly Musonda's future at Celtic may depend on the sale of Tom Rogic, according to former Chelsea and Bhoys striker Chris Sutton.

Musonda, 22, joined the Scottish giants from Chelsea in January on an 18-month loan deal. His initial performances, including against Zenit St. Petersburg in the Europa League, hinted at a bright future at Parkhead.

However, the Belgian has fallen out of favour with manager Brendan Rodgers, having made just four league appearances, the latest of which was at the start of April and lasted only four minutes.

But Sutton believes Musonda may be given more opportunities if Tom Rogic, who will play for Australia at the World Cup, impresses enough to earn himself a move away from the Glasgow club.

"He went up to Celtic with a big reputation and within the space of two games, he came on in the Europa game against Zenit and set up the winning goal at home, and you're thinking this boy has got something," Sutton told football.london.

"In the short space of time after, Brendan Rodgers kept him out and he barely gets a game now.

"Rodgers has said that he doesn't trust him and he's down the pecking order.

"He's talked about him coming to the fore next season, but you have to say he has a lot to do to come from that position.

"There are some question marks over the likes of Tom Rogic, who's playing in the World Cup this summer, that would maybe open up a position for Musonda.

"It's not worked out for him so far."
