Southampton midfielder Oriel Romeu has been named the player of the season at the South Coast club by both club fans and his teammates.

The 25-year-old, who joined the Saints from Chelsea in 2015, has made 41 appearances for the Saints in all competitions this season.

"It has been an amazing season, I have enjoyed it a lot," Romeu said after accepting the awards.

"I've felt everyone's support and need to thank my teammates for valuing the work I have done since I came here. I couldn't be any happier.

"Also the fans as well because their support gives you another strength to carry on and fight for every single ball. I need to say thank you to the fans because without them sometimes it would be much harder."
