Ex-Chelsea midfielder Filipe Morais: Bradford seeing my best football

Former Chelsea midfielder Filipe Morais feels he's playing his best football at Bradford City.

Morais is preparing for their FA Cup tie with Sunderland.

"Bradford and I found each other at the perfect time," he told the Mail on Sunday. "For a few years I went from club to club and never settled. Chelsea tried to nurture me and educate me in the right way but certain aspects of my character probably went against me.

"How you conduct yourself off the field is vital. If you go into games having not eaten right, slept right, drank right, you are not going to be 100 per cent. I thought because I was good enough everything would take care of itself.

"But it's not like that. If Messi or Ronaldo are not physically right their ability would not show in games. Now I am reaping the rewards of that knowledge. When I went home I wasn't professional in what I was eating and drinking - fizzy drinks instead of water, for example, and I was socialising more than I should have.

"I wanted the lifestyle of the professional footballer without understanding you have to earn it. It's no good buying fancy Burberry washbags because you're just a kid."
