Former Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre could be the man to take over from Steve Bruce at Newcastle United.

The takeover by a Saudi Arabia-backed consortium, led by Amanda Staveley, is taking shape in the coming days.

The fate of manager Steve Bruce is one point of contention, with Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghoudoussi spending time at the Magpies training ground yesterday.

According to The Northern Echo, Favre is interested in the job, given Newcastle are likely to spend big from the January transfer window onward.

Brendan Rodgers, Roberto Martinez, Steven Gerrard, and Antonio Conte are other names being linked with the soon-to-be vacant position.
