Ex-Blackburn, MK Dons, Wolves striker Johnson joins NY Cosmos

Jemal Johnson has been signed by New York Cosmos ahead of their debut in the 2013 fall NASL season.

The 28-year old New Jersey-born striker will join the Cosmos from Fort Lauderdale Strikers when the current NASL campaign ends in July.

Johnson will arrive at the Shuart Stadium with experience in top leagues in the UK and Europe with clubs such as Blackburn Rovers, Wolves, Leeds United, MK Dons and Lokomotiv Sofia (Bulgaria).

"Jemal is very good in 1-vs-1 situations and has a great shot from distance that has led him to score some great goals in his career," said Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese.

"Combined with his years of professional experience and exceptional speed up front, he should add an exciting element to our attack."

In addition to Johnson, the Cosmos have also signed 28-year old defender Chris Rodd, who is back playing again after retiring whilst with Norwegian side Bryne FK in 2010, and hired former Lazio, Lecce and Sampdoria coach Simone Lucchesi as their full-time fitness coach.
