Ex-Barcelona star Rivaldo ready for Uzbek challenge

Former Brazil and Barcelona superstar Rivaldo has officially signed with Uzbek side Bunyodkor (formerly known as Kuruvchi). The 36-year old left Greek side AEK Athens to join the Uzbek league leaders after earlier this week he allegedly showed interest in the A-League's new franchise, Gold Coast United, through his agent.

Speaking to his new clubs website, Rivaldo said, "I had a contract with AEK Athens, but my contract was coming to an end and I was invited by clubs from Australia and Japan.

"At the same time I got a serious offer from Uzbekistan which I accepted. I am glad I decided to accept the offer. I came here to play and show the fans.

With upcoming Asian Champions League fixtures, it was good timing by the club to secure the prolific scorers services.

Rivaldo added, "I want to help my new team in the Champions League. The club made a serious offer and now I will try and show my worth and make as much effort I can to help them be successful."
