New York Red Bulls defender Rafael Marquez has admitted he would be interested in a move back to the Mexico Primera Division.
The former Barcelona ace's MLS future is up in the air and he says he is open to a return to his boyhood club Atlas although nothing official in terms of offers has come in yet.
"I would like to help Atlas get out of this situation it is in, but there has not been a formal approach," Marquez said.
"I am ready to listen to see what they propose and what the possibilities are. First, they have to get in contact. I'm not ruling out anything."
But New York head coach Hans Backe expects the Mexico national team captain to remain at the Red Bull Arena for the duration of his current contract.
"He has two-and-a-half more year[s] on his contract," Backe said. "Now I think he got [a two-game] suspension. But he will be in the team for next year."
