Philippe Christanval has recalled the moment he saw former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal "cry like a baby".

Christanval, who played in England with Fulham, worked together with Van Gaal at Barcelona.

Recalling Van Gaal's dismissal at Barca in 2003, he told SFR Sport: "He came into the locker room after hearing the news, spoke to us and all of a sudden he began to cry like a baby.

"He was really hurt. It had an impact on me to see him like that.

"He was a hard, cold man and here he was destroyed."
