Former Atletico Madrid assistant coach German Burgos has urged his old club to stay focused.

Burgos is delighted seeing Atletico top of the table.

He told Infobae: "I wish them the best. They know that I will support them to the death.

"I'm happy with the way things are going and I hope they do very well. But there's still a long way to go. Of course, Real Madrid are up against them.

"They're going to fight, even if they've lost a few games; the guys are going, they're going. You can't be careless, and at any moment they're going to put six past you.

"Just as there are teams that are used to fighting to avoid relegation, others that know they're in mid-table and trying to reach a cup; there are others that are going to fight to be champions, because their badge demands it."
