Ex-Aston Villa No2 Critchley favourite for QPR job

Former Aston Villa assistant coach Neil Critchley is wanted by Queens Park Rangers.

Critchley is currently out of work after being part of Steve Gerrrard's backroom staff at Aston Villa, before his dismissal in October.

But as manager of Championship side Blackpool, he saw his stock rise after winning promotion from League One with the Seasiders via the play-offs in 2021, before joining Gerrard at Villa.

The Blackpool Gazette says QPR are set to appoint a new manager in the next 24 hours and ex-Liverpool coach Critchley is the clear favourite for the post.

Should he take up the role as expected, Critchley will be replacing another former Liverpool coach, Michael Beale, who has moved north of the border to become the new manager of Rangers.
