Ex-Aston Villa manager McCleish dismisses Rangers link

Alex McLeish has dismissed reports linking him with the Rangers managerial vacancy.

McLeish told the Scottish Sun: "I would like it to be known that there has been no contact from anyone at Rangers and it's important that the speculation is put to rest.

The Gers have been without a manager since sacking Pedro Caixinha last month and they have lost their last two games under caretaker boss Graeme Murty.

McLeish previously managed Rangers and enjoyed a four-and-a-half year spell as manager of the club from December 2001 during which he won two League titles.

Several bookmakers have listed McLeish as the favourite to succeed Caixinha as manager of the Gers even before Derek McLnnes indicated that he was staying put at Aberdeen amid reports linking him with the vacancy.
