Ex-Aston Villa captain Agbonlahor: Fans key to beating drop

Former Aston Villa captain Gabby Agbonlahor says fans will be key to beating the drop this season.

Villa go into the enforced break sat in 19th position, with just ten games left to preserve their top-flight status. But Agbonlahor, who spent his entire career at Villa Park, feels the fans can drive their team to survival.

He said: “I think on their day, I think they can get a result against most teams. They've played some really good football, showed a lot of fight and got some good results.

“When I look at that team I still feel there's enough to stay up, with the right formation and the right selection, I think there's enough there.

“I was at the game vs Watford at Villa Park earlier in the season, I couldn't believe the atmosphere. It was like the 12th man, the fans got the team that win, a 2-1 win over Watford.

“They stuck with them, Villa went 1-0 down and they stuck with them, which was good. It was a crazy atmosphere, if the fans can keep doing that for every home game, I back Villa to win every home game left this season."
