Ex-Aston Villa captain Agbonlahor backing move for Leeds midfielder Phillips

Former Aston Villa captain Gabby Agbonlahor can see Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips making a move.

Agbonlahor reckons Phillips might fancy the Villa 'project' this time round.

"Gerrard will know when the transfer window opens, there are players he has to get rid of," Agbonlahor told Football Insider, "he will look at Douglas Luiz who can do a job as a squad player but will not be the one starting in that position when everyone's fit. Nakamba would be a better option.

"If Villa can get Bissouma in that midfield, that's what Villa are missing, someone who can get the ball back and someone who can dictate play as well. He would be lovely in there with McGinn and Ramsey.

"But if Kalvin Phillips is available you hold out for him rather than Bissouma. I like Bissouma but Phillips has been outstanding for Leeds since he broke into the side, outstanding for England, especially at the Euros.

"I think he would be an immense signing and I'm sure Steven Gerrard would love to get that over the line. He will look at the project of Aston Villa and see it as more exciting than the Leeds project at the moment."
