Ex-Aston Villa boss Sherwood: Too soon to judge Emery

Former Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood says he will not be quick to judge new boss Unai Emery.

The former Villa and Tottenham coach was asked about Emery after Villa emerged from the weekend's Premier League action with a 3-1 win over Manchester United at home.

Despite the impressive success, which showed Villa at their energetic and counter-attacking best, Sherwood did not want to get carried away.

"Time will tell, obviously. I think it's too early to judge, but what a magnificent start," he told talkSPORT Breakfast yesterday morning.

"Not only the start by it being the first game but being two goals up in such a short space of time and getting the fans on your side.

"It's magnificent, you couldn't have dreamed of a better start than that, and there were some good performances. They were playing on the front foot with a lot more freedom and expressing themselves.

"But, as I say, it is a little bit of false economy because they get two early goals against a Man United side who took a step back, so reserve judgement at the moment, but you couldn't have wished for a better start than that."
