Former Arsenal winger Xavier Amaechi leaving Hamburg for England return

Hamburg SV winger Xavier Amaechi is set to return to England next month.

The former Arsenal attacker, 19, has been made available by HSV in January for loan and the Hamburger Morgenpost via Fussball Transfers says he is set to return to England.

While no club has been identified, it's expected to be a London team.

Amaechi left the Gunners 18 months ago for HSV, with the Germans paying €2.5m in compensation.

Contracted to the Second Division outfit to 2023, Amaechi has managed just 12 minutes of first team football this season. Despite his struggles this term, Amaechi remains highly regarded inside English football and won a first England U20 cap in October, having featured regularly with the U19s.

Having joined HSV last year, Amaechi jumped straight into the first team, but was then demoted back to the second team for this season. Indeed, he managed far more match action with Arsenal's U23 team than he has so far with HSV.
