Ex-Arsenal striker Podolski tells Ozil: Racism did not exist with Germany when I was there

Former Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski has dismissed claims of racism problems inside the Germany national team.

Gunners midfielder Mesut Ozil announced his international retirement earlier this month, citing racism for the reason behind his decision.

But Podolski, now with Vissel Kobe, has dismissed the claims, having played for Germany despite his Polish background.

He told BILD: "People from the outside after the unfortunate World Cup try to bring in things that are just not right.

"Racism has nothing to do with it, and it did not exist with us in all the years that I was there."
