Ex-Arsenal striker Bendtner has Wolfsburg deal formally terminated

Nicklas Bendtner has had his contract with Wolfsburg terminated with immediate effect.

The former Arsenal striker arrived in the Bundesliga in 2014 after nine years at London Colney, as well as loan spells at Birmingham, Sunderland and Juventus, in which he scored 47 goals but failed to live up to Arsene Wenger's expectations of him.

A statement read: “Striker Nicklas Bendtner is no longer a VfL Wolfsburg player. The contract with the 28-year-old Dane, which had been valid until June 2017, has been terminated with immediate effect. Bendtner had not trained with the team for quite some time and was recently exempted from participation.

“The striker joined VfL Wolfsburg on a free transfer in the summer of 2014 and since then made 47 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals."
