Clichy convinced: Arsenal manager Arteta can match Wenger

Former Arsenal fullback Gael Clichy believes manager Mikel Arteta is capable of matching the success of Arsene Wenger.

Clichy and Arteta played for Wenger during their time with the Gunners.

After a battling start to the season, Arteta is now receiving great praise after Arsenal's derby victory over Tottenham. It was his team's third consecutive victory.

This season is Arteta's third in charge, having arrived from Manchester City where he was assistant manager.

For Clichy, the Gunners manager is now showing his potential and what he can achieve with the Londoners.

Via Fotboll Transfers, The Frenchman said on BBC Radio: "Arteta has so much knowledge and he had the luxury of learning from Pep (Guardiola, as assistant coach at Manchester City).

"I really believe that in the long run he can be the next Arsene Wenger."

Indeed, Clichy is confident Arteta is on the brink of proving his critics wrong as his young team begin to string positive results together.

He added, "He's pretty young, and I really think he's going to prove people wrong in time."

With victory on Sunday, Arsenal leapfrogged Tottenham on the Premier League table into tenth place.
