Former Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre has signed with Werder Bremen.
The 33-year-old, who was without a club after leaving the Gunners at the end of last season, has signed a two-year contract.
"This is a great new adventure for me," he told kicker.de. "There were other offers, but (coach) Thomas Schaaf and (general manager) Klaus Allofs fascinated me."
Silvestre, capped 40 times by France, began his career with Rennes, where he caught the eye of Inter Milan.
After a short period at the San Siro, he moved to Manchester United in 1999 where he enjoyed a successful nine-year spell.
