Ex-Arsenal coach Ljungberg tells Arteta: Ozil can still be useful

Former Arsenal coach Freddie Ljungberg feels Mesut Ozil could still be of value to manager Mikel Arteta.

The Swede was speaking during Arsenal's 0-0 draw at Leeds United.

Ljungberg, a coach at Arsenal until August, attempted to explain Ozil's lack of playing time but admitted he thought he should play him when he was briefly Gunners interim boss last year.

"Playing the smaller clubs where you think you should dominate, he should be on the pitch to unlock things with his special passes," Ljungberg noted.

"When you play the likes of City maybe when they have the ball all the time maybe that's not the game for having Mesut on the pitch but if you want creativity his left foot is fantastic."

Arteta hasn't registered Ozil for either the Premier League or Europa League for the first-half of this season.
