Ex-Anderlecht coach Broos slams Kompany appointment: How will it work?

Former Anderlecht coach Hugo Broos is shocked by the appointment of Vincent Kompany as player-manager.

The former Manchester City captain will take charge of Anderlecht as player-manager - which was announced on Sunday.

Broos coached Kompany at Anderlecht and told HLN: “I am shocked that Anderlecht are offering Kompany a role as a player-trainer, certainly at the moment. Such a function does not seem obvious to me anyway, and then to do that at a top club in crisis? Without any experience as a trainer? As a coach you spend a whole week with your team and try to keep everyone happy. Being on the field yourself again at the weekend seems to me very difficult to sustain.

"Anyway, Anderlecht think he is capable of that, so we'll see. When I launched him at Anderlecht, I naturally saw that Kompany had a strong personality. He was 17 at the time and already had the ability to lead the group, as he later proved."

According to Broos, Kompany's story with Belgium must be over.

“The Anderlecht coach who plays with the Red Devils? I don't think that's possible. I would not call him again if I was national coach."
