Ex-AC Milan striker Simone: Giroud and Ibrahimovic can play in same team

Former AC Milan striker Marco Simone says Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic can play in the same team.

Giroud arrived last week from Chelsea and there's doubts about whether he and the Swede can play together.

But Simone told Gazzetta dello Sport: "Many I see have doubts about their possible coexistence, but for me it can be done. Indeed, in certain games it must be done: when the opponents close they become indispensable to open spaces. In two they hold the confrontation with four opposing defenders. Giroud is still very dynamic, he can make the movements to favour Zlatan: he can fill the depth and allow Ibra to drop to receive the lower ball.

"In a certain sense it would be Ibrahimovic to make the second striker: in any case with two everything becomes possible.

"(Stefano) Pioli will know very well what to do, as an external observer I say that a trequartista could move behind them, or one between Olivier and Zlatan act behind the other, as a 'false' fantasist.

"They have the experience and ability to best adapt to the coach's demands. They will not take away space, they will take it away from their opponents."
