Pep Guardiola has admitted that Manchester City are hoping to sign Leroy Sane from Schalke.

The 20-year-old Germany international's name has been often mentioned in the same breath as City's for much of the summer transfer market, with a £42million deal being mooted.

Some reports suggest that City are not prepared to meet that valuation but nevertheless, the club's interest is genuine as revealed by Guardiola after his side's pre-season win over Borussia Dortmund in Shenzhen.

"Sane is a player from Schalke," said the Spaniard.

"You know, I know, everyone knows we would like to have him, but at the moment he is a Schalke player.

"If he comes we'll be happy, if he stays in Schalke I will be happy for the fans and for the Schalke club."
