Everton stadium plans receive final government approval

Everton's plans for a new 52,000-seater stadium have received final approval from the government, the club has said.

The Bramley-Moore Dock site on Liverpool's waterfront was given council approval in February, but the government asked for more time to review the proposals.

The Premier League club has played at Goodison Park since 1892 and has been looking for a new home for 25 years.

The club said they could now proceed, adding it was a "momentous day".

A spokesman said the Toffees had received written confirmation of the approval after Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick reviewed the plans.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government said Mr Jenrick had decided that there was no need to "call-in" the application.
