Everton ready bid for Wigan youngster dubbed 'new Rooney'

Everton are interested in signing Wigan Athletic forward Joe Gelhardt in the summer.

The Sun reports the 17-year-old, who is being called the next Wayne Rooney, is a top target for the Merseyside club.

Gelhardt has played from the bench for Wigan several times this season.

He has a goal in 12 appearances for a team that is 22nd in the Championship.

Despite his limited goal tally, the teenager has impressed with his performances, and the Blues are banking on him to improve significantly in the coming years.

Signing Gelhardt would not be a challenge, given Wigan's financial position.

It would be even simpler if they are relegated from the Championship into League One.
